Jellyfish--several kinds of jellyfish wash up on Texas and Gulf of Mexico beaches.  The most harmful to humans is the Portuguese Man-of-War.  If you see these animals (actually not true jellyfishes) washed up on beaches, avoid swimming in the water.  Even though you may not see them floating on the surface, there may be loose tentacles in the water which can deliver a terrific sting.  Do not touch these animals, even the dried ones on the beach.  They still can cause dreadful pain.
